Batoshevo Monastery of the Dormition
The monastery is on the Apriltsi–Sevlievo road, 14 km from Sevlievo and a few kilometres from the village of Batoshevo.
It was built in the 13th century and destroyed during Ottoman rule. It was restored in 1836 and painted with murals in 1869. The church is in the National Revival style, and the greatest treasure of the monastery is its iconostasis, a work of the Tryavna woodcarving school.
In the years of Ottoman rule the monastery was a guardian of the Bulgarian spirit. Bacho Kiro and Matey Preobrazhenski, known as Mitkaloto, were its pupils.
In the village itself is the nuns’ cloister of the Presentation of the Virgin, built in the 17th century.
